Monarch Oasis

We feel so incredibly lucky to have been able to buy this property during the white hot real estate market in late 2021. Fortunately for us, the place didn't have a lot of curb appeal, as shown in the picture above. A true hidden gem, Monarch Oasis seemed our destiny. As we've learned more about the property's colorful history and the wonderful neighbors, we have watched our blessings mount and are looking forward to being part of the community.

Prior to deciding to buy this property and renovate the house rather than demolish it, I had been considered to be a fairly normal person who made sensible decisions. As such, I've had a rewarding career that included helping launch the Americorps program during the Clinton Administration, writing a book on global warming in 2008, and serving as COO and General Counsel of Ecology Action, where I expect to be for years to come.

I've done some residential renovation before and also led the partnership that restored the old Santa Cruz Sentinel Building. Because Ecology Action champions both energy efficiency and waterwise landscaping, I have access to a lot of experts and resources that is coming in very handy at Monarch Oasis.

I'm also fortunate to be part of extraordinary beach volleyball communities in both Carmel and Santa Cruz, where I manage the website.

Living in Pacific Grove has been a fantasy for about 20 years. And now, the fantasy has come true. Or it will, after we finish remodeling.

We’ve been in Santa Cruz for 21 years and, for 20 of those, I’ve worked for Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation doing public health policy work. Before that, I was a professor teaching political science.

In off-work hours, I like to take long walks. My favorites are along the water in P.G. and Asilomar. I also love to craft homemade jewelry and related items which are donated to low-income seniors in assisted living/skilled nursing facilities. Lily is the star of the family. Part Maine Coon, she has her own Twitter Caturday fan club. She gets very involved in construction projects and thoroughly inspects all work.
