The property is located in the Asilomar area of Pacific Grove, which still has a very rural feel. The house itself shows signs of creativity and whimsy apporpriate to its use at one time as a pre-school.
As shown in the rendering below, the .44 acre lot is big enough for a volleyball court with room left over.
The backyard was a microcosm of coastal forest with barely navigable walking trails. A portion of it looked like Kansas in the Wizard of Oz. One tree crunched an outbuilding, but the house itself was unscathed.
In the winter of 2022-23, after we'd cleared the biggest downed trees and heavy rains soaked the area, the coastal forest looked more like wetlands as a spring flowed prodigiously.
As recounted in her book, the prior owner fed the deer. In her absence, they're still finding plenty to munch on and birthing the next generation in a back corner of the yard.
After 6 months of biweekly working sessions, the yards have been reclaimed.
