We now have a wonderful place to live that suits us well. Ramshackle has given way to merely rustic wtih a dash of quirky. We hope to spend many years enjoying our home and Pacific Grove.

Upstairs

The second story "treehouse" that had been an ADU now has a pool table in the living room. The cue rack covers the spot where a wall furnace had been. The former bedroom is in use as a home office and gym, with an extra tall kitty condo that benefits from the vaulted ceiling. For now the upstairs kitchen is mostly used for storage.

Outside

The new color is creekside green, which seems appropriate in light of the water flowing across the property the first few winters. All of the original redwood boards that really are a full 12" wide and 1" thick remain across the front. The driveway pavers came from someone who bought them and then decided to use concrete instead. With bricks scavenged from around the property, we added a step to the stairs and reset the walkway to level it and match the height of the pavers. The yards are still mostly barren, although dirt excavated for foundations has been transformed into a serpentine mound for low water plants.

Courtyard

The courtyard now has a back fence built to match the walls of the house. In front of the planter box is a 1930s concrete sink that had been in the back yard, perhaps used by the campground that had once been on the property.

Systems

Everything from the solar backup battery to the dishwasher came with a manual. Great reading!
